2016 Ted Savage RBI Golf Classic

On June 7th, the Cardinals hosted the 27th Annual Ted Savage RBI Golf Classic at the Norman K. Probstein Golf Course in Forest Park. This annual fundraiser supports the local St. Louis Chapter of the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program (which operates out of the Matthews-Dickey Boys and Girls Club), through Cardinals Care, the official non-profit arm of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Paid foursomes were paired with former Cardinals players and local celebrities in what amounted to a great day at the golf course! Some of the celebrities in attendance included: Kyle McClellan, Brad Thompson, and Bernard Gilkey.

This year’s event raised over $20,000 for the local St. Louis Chapter of the RBI program through Cardinals Care!

The RBI Program was established in 1989 as a means to provide disadvantaged youth with an opportunity to learn and enjoy the game of baseball. Major League Baseball decided to endorse the RBI concept and provide financial support for the program. MLB has administered the program since 1991, and has seen the program grow to encompass more than 200 cities and as many as 200,000 male and female participants a year.

We would like to thank our presenting sponsors from this event, including: Edward Jones, Kaufman Broadcast, and Success Promotions. The 2016 Ted Savage RBI Golf Classic was a great event that will aid in the impact of growing youth baseball in the local community!

Cardinals Wives Grab Bag Event

The St. Louis Cardinals wives are committed to making a real difference in our local community. Throughout the baseball season, the wives participate in Grab Bag events, in which they sell baseballs signed by Cardinals players during home games at different locations inside of the ballpark.

On June 4th, the wives conducted their first Grab Bag Event of the 2016 season. The baseballs sold out before the start of the third inning, and the event raised a total of $30,000! All proceeds benefitted two local non-profit organizations: Angels’ Arms and Great Circle.

Angels’ Arms provides a house and many resources for foster parents, so that they can create a loving home for foster children. The mission of the organization is to keep sibling groups together and find homes for hard to place foster kids, including teens transitioning into adulthood. As a result, these foster children experience what it is like to be part of a happy family and a caring community.

Great Circle is a behavioral health organization that specializes in providing treatment, education, prevention and support services to children and families with a history of physical, sexual or emotional abuse, neglect or abandonment, as well as children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disorders. These services help to make a positive impact in the lives of these children and families.

The next Cardinals wives Grab Bag event will take place on August 6th! Baseballs will be sold at the following in-stadium locations: Gate 1, Gate 3, Ford Plaza, Cardinals Club and the Redbird Club. The event will benefit the following local non-profit organizations: The Covering House and Lydia’s House.

2016 Cardinals Honorary Bat Girl: Christina Sego!

On Mother’s Day, Major League Baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals honored Christina Sego as the 2016 Cardinals Honorary Bat Girl! Christina, a longtime Cardinals fan, was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago. She has courageously battled the disease through numerous radiation and chemotherapy treatments, and has now been in remission for two years.

The goal of the Honorary Bat Girl program is to increase breast cancer awareness and raise funds to support breast cancer research while celebrating our courageous fans. Each year, fans are encouraged to submit a story about how they, or someone they know, are “Going to Bat Against Breast Cancer” in their daily lives and why they would like to be the Honorary Bat Girl for their favorite team.

We invited Christina to Busch Stadium for a VIP experience with her family on Mother’s Day at the ballpark! Christina arrived in the morning for an official field visit, where she received an exclusive Louisville Slugger pink bat engraved with her name, a commemorative jersey, and tickets to that afternoon’s game vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates. Prior to the game, Christina was honored on the field during a pregame ceremony with her family. She then had the opportunity to throw out an honorary first pitch!

We were honored to host Christina on her special day, and we would also like to say THANK YOU to all of the mothers out there for everything they do!

Cardinals Care Spring 2016 Grant Ceremony

Cardinals Care, the official non-profit arm of the St. Louis Cardinals, was established to give fans a way of teaming up with Cardinals players and the organization to help children in our community – both on and off the baseball field.  Since it was established in 1997, Cardinals Care has invested over $21 million to support St. Louis area children, and has built 21 youth ball fields in local under-resourced neighborhoods.

Twice per year, Cardinals Care distributes grants to area non-profit organizations that support local youth during a ceremony held at Busch Stadium. During this year’s Spring grant ceremony, held on May 4th at Busch Stadium, Cardinals Care distributed over $130,000.00 to 64 area non-profit groups! Team President Bill DeWitt III and Vice President of Community Relations & Executive Director of Cardinals Care Michael Hall were on hand at the ceremony, as well as Cardinals outfielder Jeremy Hazelbaker. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to invest in our community partners, and we look forward to our continued efforts in making a positive difference in our community!
